Flying Crowbars: Keeping the Blues Alive in Detroit
James looks at the camera at Erich's house.
Growing up in Detroit with Flying Crowbars drummer, Perez, he was able to interact with some of the greatest Motown and Detroit-based musicians like Rob Lowe, Chris Harwood, 'Big' Rodger Thomas, Curtis Sumpter, Rodney Steele, and Eddie Harris. In turn, these musicians helped him perfect his craft and helped shaped his love for music.
As a self-proclaimed artist, he wants to give the best artistic performance every show, and that's why James never got into the rock n' roll lifestyle even though he was surrounded by it on tour.
"I never did drugs while I played," he says. "I couldn't. I needed to be mentally prepared to perform my art to the highest level possible."
